Spark Coverage Cup

Media relations is at the heart of a successful campaign and our team take great pride in beating their colleagues to win the weekly Spark Coverage Cup vote.

The winning piece of coverage isn’t just about circulation or credibility. A great business national or broadcast piece doesn’t always beat trade coverage – outcomes are key. How effectively was the client’s message communicated? What was the engagement like? Did it result in leads?

While earned coverage is now only part of what we do, the impact of what we deliver is often why clients choose to work with us in the first place. It’s why 80% of our clients come through referral and why some of our clients have stayed with us for over ten years.

Below are some of our previous highlights:

Coverage Cup 22/01/2021

Welcome to the first Coverage Cup update of 2021! Let’s take a look at some of the hot contenders for the Cup over the past few weeks, as there has been a real flurry of national coverage.

We’re kicking off with two clients securing coverage in the Financial Times. The Phesi team quickly spotted and drafted a letter to the editor off the back of the news that the UK plans to fast-track drug trials post-Brexit, discussing the importance of this and the need for investment in data management infrastructure and skills. Meanwhile, some great proactive pitching resulted in the Marqeta team securing coverage in an article discussing antitrust and Apple Pay as the use of contactless payments continues to surge since the pandemic began.

The teams have also been having lots of success in the most recent The Times / Raconteur supplements. The Pistoia Alliance team dominated the ‘Future of Pharmaceuticals’ report, appearing in three articles on women in pharma, how trust can be rebuilt in big pharma, and which technologies are transforming the industry. Meanwhile, Blue Yonder and HCL were featured in an article on sustainable AI and how food waste can be minimised in the ‘AI for Business’ report. Within the same report, SciBite, an Elsevier company, talked about the UK’s AI industry and the need to nurture the Cambridge-Oxford-London triangle.

Sticking with national coverage, the Ivalua team secured a great hit in The Telegraph, within a supplement looking at how a sustainable business world can be built post-COVID 19. Then, Dynatrace was featured in Forbes within a feature looking at the complexity of multi-lane clouds, featuring its cloud navigation tools which help to simplify multi-lane cloud with autonomous software intelligence.

However, we can’t forget the stellar trade coverage that’s been secured over the last few weeks. The Quadient team secured an opinion article placement in Utility Week talking about the steps that suppliers can take to create better experiences for their customers – including how the utility bill can be redesigned.

Moving over to life sciences, the Phesi team has been pitching Phesi’s collaboration with Sensyne Health, which will help to advance synthetic comparator arms in clinical trials, securing interview coverage in both Outsourcing Pharma and Pharmaceutical Technology. Then, the team also placed an opinion article looking at lessons the clinical development sector can learn from 2020 in Technology Networks.

In the security press, the recent SolarWinds cyber-attack continues to dominate headlines and Huntsman Security quickly secured coverage on the topic in an update article in Computer Weekly, offering advice for companies on how to secure their supply chains and the need for a holistic approach to security. Finally, Imperva grabbed coverage in Infosecurity with its data highlighting the surge in web application attacks in the healthcare sector in December.

That’s all from the Coverage Cup this week, but make sure to check out our recent blog post looking back at our favourite pieces of client coverage in 2020.
