Spark Coverage Cup

Media relations is at the heart of a successful campaign and our team take great pride in beating their colleagues to win the weekly Spark Coverage Cup vote.

The winning piece of coverage isn’t just about circulation or credibility. A great business national or broadcast piece doesn’t always beat trade coverage – outcomes are key. How effectively was the client’s message communicated? What was the engagement like? Did it result in leads?

While earned coverage is now only part of what we do, the impact of what we deliver is often why clients choose to work with us in the first place. It’s why 80% of our clients come through referral and why some of our clients have stayed with us for over ten years.

Below are some of our previous highlights:

Coverage Cup 26/10/2018

Last week, the Financial Times published its highly anticipated ‘Cyber Security: Internet of Things’ supplement. Spark secured inclusion by tracking down the relevant writers and grabbing their attention with a pitch highlighting IOActive’s recent research on satellite communication vulnerabilities. This gave researchers Ruben Santamarta and Josep Pi Rodriguez another opportunity to discuss their findings, and what they mean for the aeronautical industry. The national coverage didn’t stop there for IOActive either, after the team successfully news hijacked the UK government announcing its code of best practice for connected IT devices – winning a place in the Press Association’s article. This resulted in coverage in the likes of the Daily Mail and Belfast Telegraph.

Elsewhere, the Elsevier team secured a great piece in R&D Magazine, following a briefing with Matt Clarke, Director, Scientific Services at Elsevier. During the interview Matt gave the journalist an overview of his R&D 100 conference presentation, where he will be discussing how AI can enhance the treatment of cancer and rare diseases. The conference will see industry leaders gather to discuss ideas which will transform the future of R&D across industries.

Continuing on the subject of pharma and life sciences, The Pistoia Alliance team secured byline coverage in Pharma Exec, after drafting an article on the four challenges preventing AI from reaching its potential in the pharmaceutical and life sciences industry. The article covered areas such as poor data quality and a lack of standards – key topics for The Alliance, especially in relation to emerging technology such as AI.

Last week the IMImobile team announced npower as IMImobile’s first Apple Business Chat client in the UK. npower will use customer engagement software to support its smart meter rollout. This was an important announcement for the client and Spark secured coverage in the likes of Mobile Marketing, Netimperative, Comms Business and What Mobile. This resulted in a happy client and a happy customer – smiles all round!

The Ivalua team worked their magic and conjured up coverage in Supply Chain Digital after developing a proactive pitch looking at how businesses can prepare their supply chains for Brexit.

Last, but by no means least – It was great to see coverage in CBR, following an interview Spark set up with MuleSoft’s founder, Ross Mason, looking at the rise of the API Economy. As you can see, a busy couple of weeks has been had by all!
