Walking the Silk Road: 4,000 Miles for Global Connection

Andy By Andy

With the dark winter months behind us, we’re getting outside for some exercise for Spark’s latest steps challenge.

Hot on the heels of last year’s event where we walked 10 million steps in solidarity with NHS A&E staff, this year we are setting off along the Silk Road. For a virtual steps challenge, we’re going to be logging steps on our phones and smartwatches across the course of May, working together towards a goal of 4,000 miles.

Our journey is inspired by the historic trading route, which remains relevant in 2025 as the exchange of goods, ideas and cultures continues to shape our world. The Silk Road was a bridge between East and West, a channel for innovation, discovery and collaboration. That same spirit runs through much of what we do at Spark, whether it’s supporting supply chain clients like Ivalua in strengthening partnerships with suppliers or working with R&D organisations such as Elsevier driving the exchange of scientific knowledge across borders.

Assuming we make it all the way, Spark will be donating £750 to a charity chosen by the person who logs the most steps. So although it’s a team event, there’s still a chance for us to get competitive!

Combining teamwork, wellbeing and a spirit of exploration is at the heart of what we do at Spark – and we can't wait to see how far we can walk or run together. Stay tuned for updates on our social channels over the course of May!
