Spark Coverage Cup

Media relations is at the heart of a successful campaign and our team take great pride in beating their colleagues to win the weekly Spark Coverage Cup vote.

The winning piece of coverage isn’t just about circulation or credibility. A great business national or broadcast piece doesn’t always beat trade coverage – outcomes are key. How effectively was the client’s message communicated? What was the engagement like? Did it result in leads?

While earned coverage is now only part of what we do, the impact of what we deliver is often why clients choose to work with us in the first place. It’s why 80% of our clients come through referral and why some of our clients have stayed with us for over ten years.

Below are some of our previous highlights:

Coverage Cup 02/03/2022

The UK has been rocked by Storms Eunice and Franklin this month, but the only thing blowing us away here at Spark has been the amount of coverage we’ve secured. With the wind in our sails, we’ve delivered some great coverage for our clients. So, buckle down and hang on tight while we reel off the` stories we’ve seen so far in February.

It's been a great month for news hijacks in particular. Over the last few weeks everybody has been talking about the energy price cap – but there were no limits imposed on the Sagacity team’s coverage around the announcement bills were set to rise: their reaction comment was used by national titles Daily Express, Yahoo News and AOL, as well as local site The Bristol Post and hard-to-tap-into trade verticals, like Energy Digital. Meanwhile, Huntsman Security and Venafi both featured in a Computer Weekly story about a major German fuel logistics company that was taken offline though cyberattack. The Jetstack team also threw their hat in the IR ring, getting a great hit in Tech HQ with insight about the ongoing battle against ransomware threats.

Our teams have also proved the value of good-quality research. You could say MuleSoft’s Connectivity Benchmark Report set the benchmark for coverage, with the team securing a number of hits across enterprise IT and vertical media, including IT Pro Portal and Beta News. Over in the life sciences division, Phesi enjoyed a number of great pieces, including in Outsourcing Pharma, with data on clinical development in 2021 that found breast cancer topped the list of most studied diseases last year.

We’ve also seen some top tier feature coverage coming in: Couchbase secured a spot in a feature on data-led decision making in The Sunday Times, while MuleSoft appeared in a Raconteur supplement with comment on the digital skills gap, following a report on future-proofing digital public services. We’ve had success with interviews too. The Outseer team snagged an interview opportunity with IBS Intelligence Journal on the potential for fraud with the rise of ‘buy now, pay later’. The Dynatrace team also saw their fair share of interview coverage, with not one, not two, but three hits in Tech Talks Daily for Dynatrace’s annual event, Perform 2022.

We also saw The Pistoia Alliance team secure coverage for its new Women in STEM leadership program, a new project to map microbiome data in tier 1 US title Bio IT World. And last but not least, we also had some brilliant bylines being used in top-tier technology titles: the Ably team placed their dependability byline in US title Devops.com, while Dynatrace saw its automation byline published in Information Age. That’s all for now, we’ve got lawn chairs to tie down and the next-door neighbour’s trampoline to return. Stay tuned on the Spark socials to hear more about our day-to-day goings on, and watch this space for more coverage.
