Spark Coverage Cup

Media relations is at the heart of a successful campaign and our team take great pride in beating their colleagues to win the weekly Spark Coverage Cup vote.

The winning piece of coverage isn’t just about circulation or credibility. A great business national or broadcast piece doesn’t always beat trade coverage – outcomes are key. How effectively was the client’s message communicated? What was the engagement like? Did it result in leads?

While earned coverage is now only part of what we do, the impact of what we deliver is often why clients choose to work with us in the first place. It’s why 80% of our clients come through referral and why some of our clients have stayed with us for over ten years.

Below are some of our previous highlights:

Coverage Cup 20/06/2019

The Coverage Cup is a coveted item in the Spark office and every week there is a lot of competition for the right to display it on the winner’s desk. Over the last few weeks the calibre of entries has been exceptional, meaning that choosing a winner was a tough decision. We have had a huge amount of national media coverage, and some great hits in trade publications too.

Kicking things off, the Bromium team launched the latest Web of Profit report that highlighted the rise in cybercriminals selling hacking tools online. The team secured a number of top tier briefings with the author of the report, which resulted in a fantastic array of coverage from Bloomberg (which was also picked up by The Washington Post) to the BBC and The Sun. The team also secured articles in other core security titles such as TEISS, Security Week and The Daily Swig.

Elsewhere at Spark towers, the Community Tablet team also had a sterling few weeks. They also secured a number of briefings which led to great coverage, including a piece on BBC News Online. In addition, the team also secured a broadcast briefing which led to the client being interviewed on the BBC World Service’s Tech Tent radio programme – a fantastic result for a worthy cause!

The national coverage didn’t end there… The IOActive team worked fast to secure inclusion in a Financial Times special report on The Future of the Car, in a piece about thieves hacking connected cars. Meanwhile, the Venafi team had their fingers on the pulse of the news cycle and spotted the developing story around WhatsApp and Apple hitting back at GCHQ’s proposals around the encryption of messaging services. As a result of getting comment pitched quickly to media, the team secured inclusion in an article on New Statesman Tech.

We’ve also had some excellent trade coverage over the last few weeks. Special mentions go out to the MuleSoft team who secured a great piece in Computer Weekly for the company’s latest product announcement, as well as the Viasat team who secured a piece in The Register after providing comment on Ofcom’s universal broadband service proposals. The Dotmatics team also did a fantastic job securing a customer interview which led to an excellent piece of coverage in Scientific Computing World on cloud-based laboratories.

We’ve also seen several great byline article placements. The Bromium team secured a great piece of coverage in CBR for a blog on the Emotet malware. Similarly, the SoftwareONE team had an article published on IT Pro Portal looking at the six steps organisations need to take to ensure future IT success.

As ever, you can read some of the articles mentioned in this blog in the sidebar on the right.
