Spark Coverage Cup

Media relations is at the heart of a successful campaign and our team take great pride in beating their colleagues to win the weekly Spark Coverage Cup vote.

The winning piece of coverage isn’t just about circulation or credibility. A great business national or broadcast piece doesn’t always beat trade coverage – outcomes are key. How effectively was the client’s message communicated? What was the engagement like? Did it result in leads?

While earned coverage is now only part of what we do, the impact of what we deliver is often why clients choose to work with us in the first place. It’s why 80% of our clients come through referral and why some of our clients have stayed with us for over ten years.

Below are some of our previous highlights:

Coverage Cup 09/06/2022

This weekend some of us plastered our houses and streets with Union Jacks to celebrate 70 years of the Queen’s reign. And over the past few weeks, it’s fair to say the Spark team has been marking the occasion by landing some ‘royally’ good coverage for our clients.

The Marqeta team kicked things off with some national coverage in Forbes Advisor. Its new consumer research took centre stage in an article on how Gen Z is ditching the physical wallets and paying by phone instead. There was further Forbes coverage from the HP team, with a piece advising small businesses on how to enhance their cybersecurity profile without breaking the bank.

This wasn’t our only crowning glory in the national press. The Poly team also secured coverage using research stats to pick up mentions in The Metro and the latest Raconteur/The Times supplement on hybrid working. With some creative pitching they also secured a spot for the Poly Sync 20 personal portable speakerphone as part of The Evening Standard’s review of wireless and Bluetooth enabled devices – highlighting to the journalist that this device can be used to listen to music, as well as joining Zoom and Teams calls.

Wanting some fanfare for themselves, the Venafi team news hijacked a breaking story on US officials warning against inadvertently hiring ‘rogue freelancers’ from North Korea – landing notable mentions in both The Independent and Yahoo! News.

And did you know that UK lawyers are good at losing documents? Well, NetDocuments’ expert analysis of ICO statistics on this topic was covered in both the legal and security press, including the likes of Law 360 and Infosecurity. Like cold calls themselves, we simply can’t ignore the Freedom of Information request from the Quadient team on nuisance calls, which landed coverage in leading insurance title Post Online.

In these last few weeks, it’s seemed like you can’t move for Victoria sponge cakes, but the Daisy team has been placing more of a focus on sausage rolls. They landed some perfectly baked coverage in Computer Weekly, eWeek UK and Retail Technology Innovation Hub for a Greggs customer announcement. We also can’t forget about the Scalable team securing a piece in Management Today that asks the all-important question: Can you work from home productively, or do you spend too much time making cups of tea? We also created some eye-catching headlines after a Sagacity media alert sell-in, with a fifth of telco customers branded ‘blood-sucking leeches’ in one story. The team secured a number of hits across the telco press, including Telecoms.com, Advanced-Television and Telecom TV.

Creating their own special parade, our life science and engineering teams had some standout pieces, including a bylined article from Phesi on designing resilient clinical trials in PM Live. Phesi also featured in Clinical Trials Arena and Outsourcing Pharma after arranging and hosting interviews about progress in breast cancer trials. We also had an interesting piece of engineering coverage following a Q&A with Elsevier on applying data to energy transition projects, which was published in Power Technology.

While various Royals were sent to represent the Queen across the UK ahead of the Jubilee, you might be interested to know that we sent our very own Gus to represent us at KubeCon 2022 – and he came back with an insightful blog on conferences in the wake of the pandemic.

That’s all we have time for this time – but not to worry you won’t need to wait until another Jubilee for our next Coverage Cup round-up!
