Spark Coverage Cup

Media relations is at the heart of a successful campaign and our team take great pride in beating their colleagues to win the weekly Spark Coverage Cup vote.

The winning piece of coverage isn’t just about circulation or credibility. A great business national or broadcast piece doesn’t always beat trade coverage – outcomes are key. How effectively was the client’s message communicated? What was the engagement like? Did it result in leads?

While earned coverage is now only part of what we do, the impact of what we deliver is often why clients choose to work with us in the first place. It’s why 80% of our clients come through referral and why some of our clients have stayed with us for over ten years.

Below are some of our previous highlights:

Coverage Cup 25/11/2022

The weather might have been cooling down over the past few weeks, but our coverage has only been heating up. We’ve hit records for national coverage – as well as securing some great trade hits. Here are our favourite pieces.

First up, we’ve had some great press briefings that have delivered success for clients. The Vectra team secured a fantastic interview and coverage in The Financial Times. The opp really goes to show the impact of ongoing awareness campaigns and journalist relations. The team had pitched the journalist a threat blog from Vectra earlier in the year – so when the journalist came to write about a similar topic, Vectra was fresh in their mind, and they were keen to set up an interview.

Meanwhile the Toca team secured not one, but two interviews with top tier enterprise IT titles off the back of their proactive pitching for interviews with customer Prostate Cancer UK (PCUK). The result was two brilliant pieces in Computer Weekly and Diginomica, on the role of low-code in PCUK’s data collection strategy.

Speaking of journo relations, the Phesi team secured a phenomenal piece in The Observer/The Guardian Online, following a very productive journalist lunch. The team discovered that the journalist was writing a feature about collagen, and quickly jumped on the opportunity, asking Phesi to pull some data on patterns in collagen clinical development. These efforts led to a great write up, weaving together insights from Phesi alongside other industry experts.

Meanwhile, we’ve also seen some great results from news hijacking over the past few weeks. The Dynatrace team secured an opportunity with InfoWorld through social media, with the journalist posting a tweet looking for commentary on Meta and WhatsApp’s recent outages. The worked fast to draft and get commentary approved within a couple of hours, securing a great write-up.

Finally, Venafi hijacked news of a critical vulnerability in OpenSSL. We had to be quick off the mark with this one, as it was the first OpenSSL patch since 2016, meaning it was a big story in the security space. Our blistering pace paid off, landing a fantastic mention in Computer Weekly.
