What’s in store for Spark in 2023

Issy By Issy

The New Year marks a time for reflection on the past year, but also looking forward to the exciting possibilities to come. 2022 was a fantastic year for Spark as we grew to a team of 30 people with multiple new hires (including myself!), the agency was crowned Top 5 best UK agency to work for in 2022, and won some more amazing clients including SaaScada, Secureworks and Kainos.

Here we take a look at what’s in store for Spark in 2023.

Growing our life sciences team

Following our exciting win of genomic sequencing firm PacBio last year and fantastic national coverage in the likes of Guardian, The Times, Washington Post and Forbes, we are looking to add more life sciences clients in 2023. The team are experts in the crossover between technology and life sciences, and with a particular focus on early phase research and discovery, where technology is contributing to huge break throughs. The past few years have seen life sciences take a prominent role on the global stage, and so we’re eager to help firms navigate this ground-breaking space.

The year for giving back – Spark CSR

After the huge success of our CSR initiatives in 2022, the Spark team is eager to continue raising money for worthy causes. We have some fan favourites such as Spark Bake Off, where twelve Spark bakers battled it out for star baker, and March for March, when the Spark team registered five million steps to unlock a £650 prize for charity, making a comeback this year. These initiatives alone raised over £1,000 for Macmillian and Prostate Cancer UK last year. There are also some new proposals on the horizon too, like a Vegan month, as we look to challenge ourselves whilst raising money.

A delayed journalist social

Sadly, due to rail strikes our journalist social was cancelled last year. However, we certainly won’t let one hiccup ruin our plans. We will be inviting journalists across our key media to join us for drinks and to catch up with old friends or get to know new team members. These relationships are so important to nurture as the foundation of our work. And after the past few years of not being able to get together as regularly in person, it will be lovely to catch up over a drink… or two.

Even more Spark fun

But it’s not only with journalists that we’ll be socialising with. We had some great Spark outings in 2022, including an outdoor cinema showing of Notting Hill (watched in Chancery Lane…), life size Monopoly, and karaoke! This year’s social calendar is already looking hot with Flight Club, crazy golf and five-aside football on the cards. As our Spark team grows, we’re always looking for new and fun ways to get to know one another outside of the office.

New mental health first aiders

Mental health first aid is a training program designed to teach people how to spot the signs and symptoms of mental ill health and feel confident to guide someone to appropriate support. It’s vital to have this level of support in both professional as well as personal aspects, and so championing mental health at work is very important to Spark. This year two members of the team will be completing their training, bringing us to four mental health first aiders across the agency.

Bring on 2023!

The next year is set to bring exciting opportunities for both us and our clients as we develop new offerings, win more clients, and develop an even better workplace. Watch this space for updates!
